Bowling Season in Full Swing
Bowling Season in Full Swing
Balmoral’s bowling green is first-class. Very few villages can boast a full size, 8-rink championship green. With a pro-master super cushion synthetic surface. And right in the heart of the village, for every resident to enjoy.
It’s no surprise that March and April were busy months of bowling at Balmoral!
On 21 March, Balmoral hosted its second annual ‘Balmoral Residents and Staff Bowls Competition’. With the sun shining and 14 teams at the ready, residents and staff enjoyed a morning of healthy competition (and lots of laughs!). It was fantastic to see the many resident supporters cheering the bowlers on, and a big thank you to the team of helpers who cooked the BBQ and served drinks to everyone on the day. Congratulations to our winners, the Toorak Rollers — Kevin & Deb Burt & Nic Powell!
This was followed by the ‘Balmoral Cup Challenge’ at the Vermont South Bowling Club. In its second year and run over 10 weeks, the challenge is an open handicapped nominated triples event, and has over $1,000 in prize money to be won together with weekly prizes. The highlight this year was the ‘split round’, held at Balmoral over two weeks, giving every tournament participant an opportunity to play at Balmoral, enjoy our facilities and share a drink (or two or three!) with our residents.
And on 11 April, our Balmoral bowlers were victorious in the coveted ‘Inter-Village Bowling Challenge’ finals. Pitted against 10 other villages, Balmoral reached the grand final held at Mooroolbark on a natural grass green. Despite some residents having no experience on the surface, the Balmoral team stormed to victory over Evelyn Ridge Retirement Village.
